Another busy month in the world of Food AWARE #FeedingPeopleNotLandfill!
Was a huge pleasure to welcome Cllr Caroline Makinson, Deputy Leader of Barnsley Council & Royston area who accompanied the fab Martine & Alan from Royston Community Pantry to our warehouse for a tour and to meet some of our hard-working volunteers.
Was also great to meet Kate Davis from Crossroads Care Rotherham who also had a tour and took some surplus supplies away for local carers. And more to follow each week.Another 10 tonnes of surplus food redistributed to our growing number of community projects last week….and for FREE!

History of Coal Mining in the Local Community
Our local community has a wealth of history and part of that history is coal mining.Today we supported Ann-louise Bayley with all the food for her event Digging Deep…40 years since the miners strike our community partners at People Focused Group and Better You helped with the cooking and prep.
The collaboration between us all saw all attendees offered a hot 1980’s themed 3 course meal.
The event brought together our community members young and old to remember, or learn more about the strikes and the effects it had upon our villages ,neighbours and friends.
Today the struggles people face may be different but we commit to continue our hard work of redistributing foods to where they are needed most. Supporting people in crisis or poverty and working hard in collaboration to help lift people from their circumstances and make resilient communities. We were, are and always will be, stronger together.

Many thanks to our volunteers tonight they have cooked some lovely homemade food which our service users all appreciated on this cold evening.Was great to see our lovely mascot Florence back with us tonight (4th March 2024) our volunteer Lawrence couldn’t be with us tonight get well soon Lawrence.

World Women Wellbeing
Yesterday our Ops Director Mel and Ann-Louise attended an event in Doncaster organised by World Women Wellbeing to celebrate International Women’s Day, as Food Aware provided the food and cake for the event free of charge for all the ladies.A fabulous afternoon was had with many inspirational speakers, diverse activities and of course a spectacular buffet, that was suitable for the diversity of all attendees.
It was a huge pleasure to be invited to support this annual event and on behalf of everyone at Food Aware may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy #internationalwomensday
Welcoming Refurnish to FoodAWARE HQ
Huge pleasure to welcome old friend, supporter & fellow social entrepreneur Andy Simpson CEO of Refurnish to our Hellaby warehouse on Wed for a tour and good catch-up!Food AWARE was launched over 16 years ago in Jan 2008 and @doncaster.refurnish have recently celebrated over 20 years since they first started operating!
We discussed ideas for future partnership working between our respective organisations tackling waste, reuse, redistribution & continuing to support our grassroots communities.
Also how we can expand our partnership work supporting Spirit of Christmas alongside our friends/community partners Re-Read

Donating Easter Eggs
We are delighted to have donated some Easter Eggs to the following local community groups/organisations to share with children locally –Mexborough Foodbank – 25
Mexborough SMILE (The Willows & Bhatia Centre) – 50
Mexborough Events Committee Inclusive (MECI) – 100 (20 per Mexborough Primary School to be passed on to those children less fortunate at each school’s discretion)
Mexborough Athletic FC (under 8s & other juniors) – 50
