Stand With Ukraine

On the 31st Anniversary of #ukranianindependenceday we are proud to have supported our Ukrainian friends over the last few months since the war started on 24th Feb 2022.
Further supplies will be provided as we are able but with our priority focus on the current UK Cost of Living Crisis

Here is our latest press release below.

South Yorkshire based Food AWARE CIC joins forces with local Dearne Valley business & community organisations to support ‘Ukraine Relief Effort’

Since the war in Ukraine started at end of Feb 2022, Food AWARE CIC has supported the ‘Ukraine Relief Effort’ with over 50 pallets of suitable food stocks & personal hygiene items (over four trucks) valued at over £30,000 in conjunction with local, national & international community/business partners.

While our main focus in on our UK based community support especially in light of the current ‘Cost of Living Crisis’, it would be wrong of us to turn a blind eye to the horrific events happening in the Ukraine.

In recent months we have been working very hard in partnership with a handful of key charities in the UK, Poland, Ukraine and USA. Together we have managed to forge links with the Polish and Ukrainian governments, securing green light pathways across borders to reach those most in need.

As an example, in May 2022, a HGV with 26 pallets of food, around 150,000 instant meals left the UK bound for the the Ukraine border. On arrival those pallets were broken down and spread across smaller vehicles before being taken under escort of the Ukrainian Army into the heart of Kyiv to those in most desperate need of sustenance.

Some of the photos attached are of the direct impact are collective donations have made in the heart of Ukraine and of the difference our donations have made to so many families and also UK soldiers on the frontline.

None of this would have been possible without the financial support of –

  • Gala Tent
  • Giving World (Leicester-based Charity)
  • World Connections (USA Charity)
  • Food AWARE CIC ‘Kindness Fund’

And of course, with the hard work of our charitable partners of both UK and abroad along with our amazing volunteers based in Hellaby, Rotherham.

In the Dearne Valley in South Yorkshire, we have joined forces with Manvers based, Gala Tent Uk, who have contributed £2,000 towards the Ukraine effort.

Jason Mace, Managing Director of Gala Tent UK said “It is a huge pleasure to be able to offer our support for such a great cause as we do our little bit to help those families in need in Ukraine. We were so pleased when Sean and his team at Food AWARE approached us for our collaboration support and allowed us to be part of a much a wider national and international partnership to get essential food & personal hygiene items out to where it is most needed in Ukraine both inland and on the borders”.

Huge thanks also to Kris Jowett and the team of volunteers at Darfield Cricket Club who, together with the help of local firm Smith Painters Ltd dropped off eight pallets of essential food/personal hygiene items which was dispatched to Ukraine one of the four truck consignments in May 2022.

Special thanks to our business partners JP Walton & Son Transport Ltd who also assisted our joint efforts transporting essential supplies from our Hellaby, Rotherham base to our Leicester charity partners, Giving World, before being transported separately to Ukraine.

Sean Gibbons, Managing Director of Food AWARE CIC said “Although we are currently facing a ‘Cost of Living Crisis’ in the UK and planning for the most challenging winter period since the Second World War, it is right that we also support our friends and families in need in Ukraine during these terrible and unprecedented times.

By working closely with our community, charity and business partners, we are ‘Stronger Together’ and can achieve so much more when we bring together our collective resources, skills, knowledge and connections to ensure that essential support is provided where it is most needed”.
