It was a pleasure to meet at Lidl, Mexborough this morning with Jim Walton & Emma Worley (of JP Walton & Son…one of our main project sponsors…wearing Christmas jumpers!) and one of the families benefiting from a very generous donation from JPW. Pictured is Deborah Scott who chose a festive Christmas food hamper valued over £100. Deborah and her family were selected by Mexborough Foodbank to receive a festive food hamper.

Jim is also donating a further £100 in food to benefit further families via our Mexborough Foodbank provision over the festive/winter period.

In addition, the Lidl store also donated an additional £50 worth of food which Food AWARE decided to gift to another local family less fortunate in partnership with DMBC Stronger Communities/Families team. ‎Darren Simpson, DMBC Stronger Communities Officer is pictured taking receipt of the donate food from Matt Chambers, Lidl Store Manager in Mexborough before Darren delivered to the local family to enjoy over the festive period.

‎Sean Gibbons, Managing Director of Food AWARE CIC said ‘It was an absolute pleasure to co-ordinate this excellent partnership offering across the public, private and third sectors coming together to help local families less fortunate in extremely challenging times. We are anticipating a very cold winter and have already seen a noticable increase in requests for emergency food parcels. Huge thanks to all involved for your ongoing support’.

Food AWARE will be partnering with Lidl in the New Year on their Food Waste Project in conjunction with ‎national charity Neighbourly and will receive regular supplies of surplus food from local Lidl stores on a weekly basis.
